VIEWS AND COMMENTARY: CAN THE MUNICH SECURITY CONFERENCE BRING PEACE TO THE WORLD
Commentator: Chen Xiaohong
The 59th Munich Security Conference came to an end on February 18-19, 2023 local time, attracting worldwide attention. Senior defense officials and experts from nearly 100 countries and regions attended the meeting.
The focus of the meeting was fixed on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but it did not produce any substantive plans to help Russia and Ukraine “stop the war and promote peace”. At the Munich meeting, U.S. Vice President Harris said that Russia committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine; British Prime Minister Think tank said that it is time for us to double military aid to Ukraine; French President Macron said that now is not the time for dialogue; German Chancellor Kurz said that everyone who can provide main battle tanks can actually send tanks to Ukraine; European Commission President Von der Leyen said that we must redouble our efforts to provide military assistance to Ukraine… This kind of blind sending to Ukraine Is it in the interest of the people to provide arms? Can it effectively prevent war? Can this really bring peace?
Please think about it, everyone: Is aiding mercenaries and a large number of weapons condoning the continuation of the war? What about knowingly killing more people? How about destroying more prosperity and beauty built by oneself? Do all weapons used on the battlefield mean killing people? What’s more, it’s murder without discussion life, and death, strangers become enemies! This is not at all a model in which human beings have to kill each other to survive, and it is not at all the ultimate goal of human development! So here comes the question, if not, why no peace talks? Why do many third parties add fuel to the fire instead of persuading peace talks? Is this brain damage or brain flooding? The basic law of human rights is natural survival, not artificial death, referred to as human rights.
The Munich Security Council has traditionally been a platform for participants to speak freely and exchange views. Since it is a security meeting, and it is specifically about the situation of the Russia-Ukraine war, why was Russia not invited to attend? Iran is also not in the name.
As a world peace envoy, I love peace without any political bias. I noticed that Chinese representative Wang Yi was shouting loudly: China is not a party to the Ukraine crisis, but we did not stand by and add fuel to the flames. Everything China has done boils down to one sentence, which is to promote peace and talks. China firmly stands on the side of dialogue and peace.
The Chinese leader mentioned that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be respected, the legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and all efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully should be supported. Wars cannot be fought or won. It also calls for the protection of civilian nuclear facilities, opposes attacks on nuclear power plants, and advocates joint opposition to the use of biological and chemical weapons. China’s attitude is clear, to persuade peace and promote talks, not to stand idly by, not to add fuel to the flames, and not to take advantage of the fire.
Biden went to Ukraine with $500 million worth of military equipment aid on “President’s Day”. There were criticisms in the United States, criticizing him for ignoring domestic crises such as the chemical spill in Ohio. Instead of visiting the victims in his own country, Biden went to visit Ukraine.
To sum up, although there is a tendency of competition between the two parties in the United States behind Trump’s propaganda, why does Trump promise so confidently that if he is re-elected as president, Russia will never conduct special military operations in Ukraine, and promise A deal within hours? Is there really any political mystery in it?
Geopolitics has changed the domestic advantage of not rising prices for many years, and rising prices have directly affected the living standards of every family. Geopolitics also affects the airline traffic of the tourism industry. The grounding of airlines severely damages the tourism industry, but more importantly, countries that could have direct flights now have to take detours and cross several countries to reach them. Is it depriving people of everyday travel?
Congressmen spoke out, Trump bombarded from the air, and people took to the streets to march. Can the Biden administration readjust domestic and international strategies? It must go through all politics to serve the people’s livelihood.
